The Resilient Yucca

Once uprooted

Suddenly, painfully

pulled from the soil of safety

The bed of dirt that

has sustained for decades

now repurposed for expansion

Alone in the scorching sun,

once watered roots carelessly

thrown in a bucket.

Will re-planting come?

Or will the once-thriving plant

wither away in the dead space

of the white cylinder?

But, after a time, a new home is chosen.

A re-planting.

It's touch and go as the dry roots

try to live again.

Water and time are the only hope.

But will that be enough?

A year passes and there it sits.

Immobilized by the

abruptness of the transplant.

The leaves barely green,

the most minimal signs of life

barely hanging on as it sits

for one year, then two,

not bearing a single flower.

But then on the 3rd year

-----Resurrection-----

A single stalk makes its way

toward the blue.

A singular eruption that

births a multiplicity of blossoms.

Bells of white echoing

the innocence of re-birth.

And then, on year 7,

a girl of 7 passes by and sees

a trinity of promise;

7, the year of completeness,

the triplet of stalks echoes

the promise of the cosmos

What seemed dead lives again.

The re-planting, which once

looked like death,

has given brith

to more vibrant blossoms

than the former place.
